Welcome to day five and more Christmas porch decorations. This time I started with four things that were all TOTALLY FREE.

Now listen closely because I’m going to tell you the secret to putting all this together and making it look amazing.

1. Put all the crap in the bucket.
2. Done.

That’s it. No magic. No detailed instructions. Just move things around until you like the way it looks. Oh, and I did find some red ribbon in my stash so I tied it around the bucket for a pop of color.

One of the things I like most about this project is it looks pretty during the day and during the night. Here are some daytime pics.

And here are some nighttime photos – with one little addition. I was digging through my Christmas boxes and found these oversized ornaments. I couldn’t resist the red and gold so I snuggled one down in the branches. Love it!

So pretty. So simple. So FREE.

Do you ever gather things from the yard (or neighbor’s yard) to put together outdoor decorations? Do you end up liking them better than the expensive, store-bought version?

  5. I Love how you put it! “Put all the crap in” LOL! That’s me! And just keep arranging it until I like it 🙂 And yes, a lot of times I like the DIY version much better than the store bought version. I Love what you did and am sharing it on my Facebook page 🙂 Thanks!

  11. How do you keep the lights from over heating the greenery and catching fire?
I put mine together and started feeling the heat and I’m afraid it will catch fire, regardless of it being outside on the porch.

    • Hi Shelly. I didn’t worry about the lights getting too hot since they’re Christmas tree lights and therefore designed to be against fresh greenery for long periods of time. I was sure to use outdoor lights though so there was no risk of the weather or moisture causing a problem. Hope that helps!

  13. I like your simple instructions to simply put all the materials in the bucket and voila you’re done. This is definitely my kind of decorating! And it looks amazing! I like that this project doesn’t cost you anything as well. My husband would let me decorate more if he knew that it wouldn’t cost him anything. Thanks for sharing!
